Trains Arrive at Union Station

Most of you are familiar with the model train display that is set up every holiday season at Union Station at the east end of the main hall. But I discovered that another exhibit is there year round right next to the Post Office. What fun. And a perfect fit for the station.

The Erector Set constructions in the center of this picture actually work with the original motors. I'd forgotten all about Erector Sets... even though I had one!

Don't know what the movie was... but the ads made me hungry.

A gentleman who was one of the managers of the display told me that it will be up until fall when it will be time to move it over to the east side for Christmas.

The display really attracted quite a bit of attention while I was there... the young ones loved it.

  2. This is all made up locations. Some model railroaders model real roads and real locations. A friend and I used to talk about fantasy models based on historic Kansas City. Specifically, one option was the Kansas City Terminal Railroad which handled (and still handles) inter-road operations in the KC area, movements to and from industries in the crossroads, and movements at Union Station.

  3. Very cool. They used to have a really nice set up at the KC Museum in the Billiards Room. I've always been fascinated with the displays at Christmas time. We go down to Union Station just to see them. Darling spent almost an hour looking at the Christmas display 2 years ago (which is saying something for a 2 yr old.) We'll have to check it out!

  4. Kelly loved the train set up at the Museum... also because it was the last thing we looked at before phosphates!

  5. Oh man! Now I want a cherry phosphate! Those were the best (though I usually added a scoop of vanilla ice cream to it). I made a mean phosphate back in the day...The soda fountain was one of my favorite places to work in the museum...
