Hotel Fredric

Yes, no "K".   The Hotel Fredric was constructed in 1916-1917 at 312 E. Ninth Street and stood there until 1996.   If you wonder about the lack of affordable housing downtown, look no further than urban renewal which leveled building after building  that  were or could  have provided that housing with remodeling to do so.   The Fredric was a victim of the urban leveling.  

December of 1994 Brad Finch and I did some interior shots of the Fredric as it was scheduled for
demolition.  In February of 1994 Lloyd Grotjan did the exterior shots.   The photos were for an Historical American Buildings Survey which documented the "destruction" of our architectural heritage.    The color image shows the site as it is today.... we lost housing and gained parking spots.

Flocking At The River

The Missouri River is hosting a Flock of Ring Billed Gulls. Above, resting on a sandbar, below, circling and looking for fish.  They are swift and graceful diving down to the water, grabbing a fish and taking off again.  The 8th picture below shows a Gull with a fish in beak. You Can't Go Home Again

 George and Anna Vetter moved into 645 Brighton in 1914.   The home was built in 1910.  They were my great grandparents.   Below, Lawrence and Flora Remley on the from porch ca 1916. My Father was raised in this home from 1918 on... along with his brother and sister.  Went to Thacher and both Northeasts.

Unfortunately, the home burned on December 16th... and, to my eye, this is the end . 119 years.  Below, don't know the date, probably 1920s ish.

Waning Days Of Fall On Cliff Drive

 The waterfall (Carl DiCapo Fountain ) is off for the winter now and most of the leaves are gone.

Indian Mound Trail - Maple Grove

The Indian Mound Trail runs along the bluffs below Gladstone Boulevard between Elmwood and North White...almost all the way to Indian Mound.  It is a fairly easy trail with nine springs along the way.  Maple Grove is below Gladstone at roughly Hardesty... it is all maples and quite beautiful each Fall.

Cliffhanger Run 5K And 10K

 The Cliffhanger 5k and 10k for 2019 races start and finish line in front of The Colonnade in Historic Northeast KC.  The route went along Cliff Drive and up Gladstone Boulevard.  The race is put on by the Kansas City Running Club and is a benefit for Northeast Neighbor to Neighbor  ( nnncares.org ).
