Next door east to the William Wallace "castle" is the William Chick Scarritt House. Finished in 1888 it was designed by Burnham and Root. William lived there with his wife, Frances Virginia Davis Scarritt and their 5 children. It served as a nursing home from 1940 until the early 2000s. Now in private hands it was lovingly restored and then, in 2016, almost destroyed by fire. The home at 3240 Norledge was then again renovated and stands today . William was an attorney and the son of Nathan Scarritt, pastor and wealthy land owner .

Rivers Rising
Nothing serious will come of the new levels, but it's impressive to behold.
Water level this afternoon ( 7/4 )...the water will crest around their knees.
He's pointing toward the spot where they actually landed.

See You Again Soon To A Northeast Warrior
Today, June 28, 2024, is Michael Bushnell's last day at the Northeast News. For the last 26 years he and wife Chris Adams have been the voice of Northeast. 1,352 issues of the News have had his touch and input. More than 100 awards from his peer group adorn the walls and halls of the current News building. Stories, podcasts, photos, editorials ... all have born the mark of his passion for journalism. To say his advocacy for Northeast will be missed is an understatement. There will no doubt be joy in the halls of opaque government as a journalist who just wants the truth is someone to be feared by those who sing Kumbaya while the roads rot and only want happy news. This is not retirement and it was not voluntary.
As a small business owner you have to know how to do everything from distribution to podcasts to trying to get comment from obfuscating public officials.

Kawsmouth River Carnival 2024
Above, Dorri Partain of the Northeast News was cheering on the contestants with a stolen balloon.
Above, one of two rescues that I know of.
Above and below. A hot tub was one of the vessels. Manned by a crew with brooms. All was well until they sailed right by the boat dock and had to be rescued before continuation on to St. Louis.
Above, there was a band on a boat.
