John Calvin Pollock was born in Belmont County, Ohio in 1857. He was nominated by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1903 to a seat in the Federal Judicial Service, U.S. District Court, District of Kansas . He was confirmed by the Senate on December 1, 1903. He served in that position until his death in Jan 1937. Prior to that appointment he was in private practice in Newton, Iowa, 1884-1885, Hartville , Missouri 1885-1886, Winfield, Kansas 1887-1901 and a Justice of the Supreme Court of Kansas from 1901-1903. His first wife, Louise Lafferty Pollock died in 1912 which led to the building of the mausoleum above. His second wife was Beulah Haas McColm Pollock who died in 1955. Pollock and his first wife had one child Lucille Pollock Jennings. Elmwood Cemetery is celebrating 150 years of existence this coming Saturday, October 1st. Please come.
