Chalk Walk in Northeast

Saturday and Sunday saw the Chalk Walk come back to the Concourse in Historic Northeast for another year. The fountain water is turned off and the concrete base and walkways become canvas for chalk artists from all over. I took these pix on Sunday so some of the Saturday drawings had suffered a little from what rain we received that day. Its a great time for everyone... and kids love it too. Giant kites were on hand and the 30 mile-per-hour gusts (and up) made for great wee-people fun. I seldom post people pix but that's actually the majority of my work. There was also live entertainment including jugglers who used mini-volunteers some of whom I think had second thoughts about the whole thing.

  1. This was, by far, one of the best events I got to cover in Old NE. So much fun.

  3. Thank you so much for photographing this event and sharing these pictures!

Also, I wish we had some more of the nice open squares of Europe that lend themselves so well to public chalk art!

  6. Cool pictures! Dan worked this one instead of me, so I didn't get to see all the great art. Thanks for covering it!

There's another Chalk & Walk coming up in June. I'll send you the details if you're interested.

  9. Chalk Walk in the Historic Northeast was AMAZING! Great chalk art, families, people from all over KC. You can find out more by visiting their website. http://www.chalkwalk.org and the beneficiary is Mosaic Brain another NE organization put on by Bryan and Wolfgang, http://www.mosaicbrain.org. The sites need some updating but you can see what they do.

  11. Thanks for your beautiful photos.
    You are truly gifted.
As one who grew up in Northeast, I have a hard time visiting the area now and seeing how things have changed.
You've shown me that there is still beauty in the old neighborhood yet.
    I love old Kansas City!
