Signs of the Times
The new traffic circle at Benton Boulevard and St. John Avenue is almost finished and it looks wonderful. Unfortunately 20 plus signs were installed and you can hardly see it. A little bit of overkill I'd say. Our drivers over here are essentially stupid... but you can't cure that by confusing them. Note that the sign in the foreground has a sign on it explaining what the sign means.

Good lord, if it wasn't so unattractive this would be hilarious.
ReplyDeleteIt's okay to laugh.... I did. I told my friends... I know they're gonna screw this project up I just don't know how. Now I do.
ReplyDeleteOlathe has a bunch of rotaries. Ridgeview Road alone has three of them. E. KC Road has at least 2. I'll have to look at how much signage they put up around them.
ReplyDeleteyep,Olathe went crazy putting these in,I go through two on the way to work, you can always tell a person who sees them for the 1st time by confused look and failure to proceed
ReplyDeleteThe road to hell is paved with good intentions and has signage.
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean that the St John Corridor renewal project will start? Was the turn-around improvement a part of the plan?
ReplyDeleteSJ Corridor project started two years ago with the re-doing of the street area in front of Holy Cross Church.... new curbs, sidewalks and a narrowing of the street in places to allow for easier pedestrian crossing. The Benton Circle project was Phase Two. Phase three is next at the intersection of Van Brunt and St. John. So things are well underway.
ReplyDeleteThis was a round-a-bout already, since the turn of the century.
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad they felt it had to be redone because a few foreign drivers couldn't understand the right of way.
Another fine mess by Kansas City.
