Historic Moment

Very, very rare photograph of the last time Indian Mound in Northeast Kansas City erupted. According to native lore it was shortly before 1700.  This picture was taken by a trapper who was just passing through.   The photograph, which is a glass plate negative, can be found in the collection of the Smithsonian Institute.

  1. FAKE PHOTo per my inquiry to Missouri Department of Natural Resources:
Sorry to inform you but this "photograph" is totally fake. The back ground is a recent photo that you can see here: https://www.indianmoundneighborhood.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/cropped-Indian-Mound-Top-Image.jpg posted to the Indian Mound Neighborhood Association website here: https://www.indianmoundneighborhood.org/indian-mound/ . There was no photography until the 1800s and the eruption plume that was photoshopped to the base image is from a type of volcano that is only found at tectonic subduction zones. KC has not experienced any igneous activity for at least 1.6 billion years.
